First meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board for the evaluation of the maritime spatial plan (EEZ)

The preparation of the maritime spatial plan for the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Sea and Baltic Sea from 2019 to 2021 was supported by a scientific advisory board. As set out in the draft decree for the maritime spatial plan (2021), the plan is to be evaluated after five years. To this end, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) invited participants to the first meeting of the advisory board on 14 July 2025 as part of the planned evaluation.

The advisory board includes experts from the University of Hamburg, the Technical University of Berlin, the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Spatial Development, the Helmholtz Centre Hereon, the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries and the Weser-Ems Regional Development Agency.

The meeting was used to discuss a draft concept for the monitoring and the evaluation of the spatial plan for the German EEZ (2021). The evaluation is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
