Webinar: Estimation of long-term offshore wind energy yield in the German EEZ

  • General

In the context of drafting the site development plan for offshore wind energy in the German EEZ, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) contracted the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) to estimate the expected energy yield for multiple expansion scenarios. The estimation is based on assumptions about future technologies and wind farm layouts. A parametrization of wind turbines in a numerical weather model is used to calculate the energy yield estimate. This approach allows for a physical representation of the expected interaction between large wind farms and the lower atmosphere. The simulation results can be used as immediate feedback on changes for the area development and provide a common reference estimate for developers.

In this webinar, Fraunhofer IWES will give a presentation on the research question, approach and selected results (approx. 45 minutes). Afterwards there will be time for discussion.

The webinar will take place on 30th November 2023, 13:00. Language is English. All interested parties are invited to join the webinar. For registration, please send an email to EingangOdM@bsh.de.
