On the 16th October 2019, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) held an expert discussion on the subject of underwater cultural heritage in Hamburg. Invited were representatives of the state authorities for culture and monument preservation from Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Federal Foreign Office and the Bremerhaven Maritime Museum. The possibility of considering finds and sites of underwater cultural heritage in the North and Baltic Seas during the revision of the maritime spatial plans were discussed.
The representatives intend to prepare a summary contribution on underwater cultural heritage, to allow this topic to be taken into account during the plan revision.
