On Thursday, 10.10.2024, a working group on gates between the territorial sea and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) met at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).
The BSH is moderating the discussion and coordination process, which involves specialist authorities from the federal states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, the Federal Network Agency, the Directorate-General for Waterways and Shipping and the transmission system operators. The task of the working group is to identify and objectively evaluate additional transmission line corridors through the coastal waters of the North Sea. In order to achieve the national expansion targets for offshore wind energy, but also to improve networking with neighboring countries, additional transmission lines will be needed in the long term.
